The Ideal Home Show, Glasgow
This week’s biggest adventure was The Ideal Home Show in Glasgow. I do love Glasgow; it is a very big fun city. I like the people, I like their approach. At the Show, if something goes wrong the people of Glasgow tend to tell you they don’t like it. But then, they are really appreciative of any effort to put it right. This seems so much more an honest approach, much better than pretending everything is ok and then writing e-mails and letters of complaint later. I enjoy being at the Show very much, I am really pleased with the food we served at the Gregg Wallace Restaurant and I always enjoy my nights out when I’m up there in Glasgow. A special mention to the happy staff at The Corinthian, I do enjoy a sing song with a pint of beer.
Catering
I might be getting involved with a bit of catering. I have had business conversations about getting involved with the food at Tottenham Hotspur. I have also been having a chat with a chap who looks after the catering at many of the music festivals. It’s not something I have ever thought about before but this is definitely big volume and I do think I could make a difference. So we’ll see.
Ascot
I did have fun being measured for my top hat n tails for Royal Ascot coming up. I attended Ascot for the first time last year and it was wonderful, one of the best days of the year. This year, through a good friend (as long as I’ve got my top hat and tails) I’ll be in the Royal Enclosure. What about that! Peckham Greengrocer, in with the toffs!
Restaurants
There is one London restaurant opening that I want to mention and that’s Toto’s. It’s on Walton Street at the Harrods end. Very fine Italian food in very fine surroundings, including a courtyard garden. I eat out a lot as you know, but I am very impressed. Another opening I am very much looking forward to is Bilbao Berria owed by Ash, the guy who won Pro MasterChef a couple of years ago, an incredible chef in love with Basque cuisine. As a visitor to San Sebastian and a fan of the cuisine myself, I really can’t wait.
I am doing a bit of fine dining next week and I am very much looking forward to it. A trip to one of my absolute favs, Le Gavroche, have bit of a hug with Michel Roux Jnr and I am off to the newly refurbed Marcus at The Berkeley by Marcus Waring.
