The highlight of the week was dinner at Le Gavroche with my lovely girlfriend and her wonderful parents, Rina and Massimo. This was their first visit and they absolutely adored it. They are Italians and they understand food. It was such a good night, I do love the place. I have never met a group of people so skilled in filling you up with good food and fine wine. Service is beyond reproach, the food is so good, if you don’t want to eat it, take it home and snog it!
I made another visit to Stratford-upon-Avon filming Eat Well for Less. I am beginning to grow very fond of Stratford. I particularly enjoy the walks along the canals and the town centre is full of decent pubs and it does of course have an amazing collection of Tudor buildings. Nice place, will visit again soon.
I have been so busy I actually haven’t managed to make the gym very much. I seem to be constantly in hotel rooms. What I have been doing is getting up early and doing interval training. Walk for a minute, run for a minute. Heart rate goes up and down and it’s fun. It is a particularly enjoyable and healthy way to discover a new town. No weights this week so not much resistance training but a fair bit of getting out of breath.
Towards the end of the week, I found myself in an enormous orange juice factory in Somerset. I found out quite a bit about freshly squeezed and concentrate. I can’t tell you what I found out but you will be able to watch it on the telly soon.
Next week starts off with coffee and then lunch at The Goring Hotel. When did I become establishment? I must be old but I just love the elegance, and absolute undisguised Englishness of The Goring. Lovely bar/lounge, lovely restaurant, it’s posh (unashamedly so) and I love it. My son Tom is back from Uni, so I’ll treat him. Nice to have a good lunch and bottle of wine.
I am almost embarrassed to say I’m going to be back at Le Gavroche again, this time with a new mate, Andy O’Sullivan from Tottenham Hotspur. He signed me up to oversee the food at executive box level. Funny place for a Millwall supporter to hang out but I am very much looking forward to the challenge.
I am attending the FitPro Show at ExCel, I take my fitness seriously and I just want to see what new innovations are being worked on. If I had the time, I wouldn’t mind actually working with fitness. I am 50 this year but I feel fitter and stronger than ever.
Then me, my girl Anna and my children, Tom and Libby are off to Galway for a few days. Set up the Guinness!
