Busy week last week but you know I wouldn’t have it any other way.
On Monday. I had lunch with an old friend Genaro Contaldo. He is the guy who gave Jamie Oliver his first cooking job, they’ve been friends ever since.
There is a place in the city of London outside Liverpool Street Station. It’s called Eataly. Honestly, I’ve never seen a place like it. It’s across two floors and it really does appear to have every single Italian ingredient. You could hope for. As well as a coffee shop, ice cream bar, and two restaurants. Well worth a visit, this is a temple to Italian gastronomy.
On Tuesday, I gave a talk to 700 ladies of the Essex Women’s Institute. I told the story of how I left school at 15, with no qualifications through my television career and onto an MBE at Windsor Castle.
Wednesday, the highlight was hosting a dinner at Le Gavroche on behalf of the Matt, Hampson Foundation. A charity I have been an ambassador for for many years.
Thursday found me in Borough market with my eldest boy, Tom. He’s got a new job we were celebrating. Ending with a late-night bowl of pasta.
On Saturday, I did two live cooking demonstrations in Worksop. Part of the North Notts food festival. Had a fabulous time up there and met some wonderful people.
Sunday, thankfully found me resting at home with the family. Without doubt my favourite past time.
